Last week my boyfriend came home grinning from ear to ear and clutching two tickets to see Arsenal Vs Besiktas. He'd managed to buy a couple from someone at work, and I'd never been to a football game before so I was very up for it! And so last night, without knowing what to expect, we headed to the Emirates anticipating the game...
On our way to the stadium, we walked alongside the crowd of eager fans past numerous burger vans (I'm told Fat Harry's is the original!) and arsenal pop-up stalls, where Sam bought me a scarf. There was also a sweet stall which sold just about every type of sweet, so we bought 'super shrimps' and 'fizzy dracula teeth'! We also past 'The Auld Triangle' which was absolutely packed full of people adorned in red. I'm told it's pretty much the pub every fan goes to before the game - it looked way to busy for us!
For those who have never been to a football game, there's something quite surreal about it. I would never call myself a die-hard fan, but I've always been intrigued, and in general I do quite like the game. It was pretty cool seeing all the players I'd watched on telly - and Arsene Wenger - in real life! The stadium smelt a little of grass, coffee and boiled sweets, and a lot of a mixture of different men's deodorants and aftershaves! (Elena's observations; you're welcome ;)).
I'm not a fan of crowds so I did feel quite anxious. A lot of the men were shouting abuse at players/the referee/the linesmen, which I guess I did get used to, but still didn't like much! I'm no expert but, to be fair, the referee was pretty poor; almost every player was booked at some point! Having said that, when Arsenal scored the winning goal, it was an absolutely amazing feeling to be celebrating with lots of strangers. I can see why people like it!
The game finished 1-0 to Arsenal meaning they go through to the Champions League. If you get the chance to see the game on telly - watch out for the end, when Oxlade-Chamberlain kicks the ball into the crowd. It was heading straight for my head and my boyfriend knocks it away. You can't really see us, but you see it happen!
Sounds like you had such a great time and a good view! x

Ahhh no way that's so cool! Jack Wilshere is from around where I live and I've seen him wandering around a couple of times! I'd defo recommend going to a football match even if you're not normally into the game, it's a totally different environment when you're there xx
DeleteI've never been to a football game either, hope you had a great time!
